iPad as my main computer/device

I’ve toyed with the idea of using an iPad as my main computer, as well as my main mobile device.

No more laptops, desktops, iPods, iPhones, etc. Just one device, to be used for everything.

Sure, there would be some sacrifice with my workflow and normal daily usage, but I might be able to get used to it.

Consider at work I am supplied a computer, so only non-working hours would I need a device to get online.

And unless it’s a major project, why do I need a dedicated desktop, laptop, or pocket mobile device?

Well, a pocket device certainly is nice for situations where handling an iPad is too bulky, like being in a grocery store and needing to quickly look up a recipe. “Whipping my iPad out” just doesn’t seem as easy as a smartphone (or iPod).

A pocket device is less weight, easier to handle with one hand, and more inconspicuous.

And how about when I need to perform some action that only a desktop or laptop OS could handle? I’d be out in the dark for sure.

It’s a pipe dream, yes, but one that keeps rolling around in my head regardless.

  1. Matt,

I could not agree more. I am always thinking about the same thing. I too have a company supplied laptop, but a 17 inch monster that make me cringe about traveling with it. My laptop only comes home on the weekends, and used only for work quoting based on our ERP / MRP system. Sitting here now I am trying to find a flow chart software for the iPad to replace one more thing on the laptop.

    thanks

    Shawn
